Randy Pausch...and 20!

I just found out that Randy Pausch, the famous professor from his youtube video "the last lecture" (below) died today. From what I've seen, he was an extremely inspirational person. One of few people I've ever seen who really knew what it was all about.

In other news...yesterday was my 20th *gasp*. Odd feeling being 20. Sister's birthday was today (11). We went to the aquarium for my birthday and ate at Wazee St. Supper Club. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G pizza.

John and Steve's PSA...

Don't really know why...but this is hilarious. I love how he can joke and keep a totally serious face the entire time...and Steve's laugh is beyond funny.

Zone tomorrow...went out and shot today...messed up and only shot 4 sheets instead of 5, but hopefully it'll be ok.

Cave of the Winds...and The Amber Spyglass

Went to cave of the winds with the sibs today. Still just as cool as it was when I was 9. They didn't want to go when I told them where we were going, but after the tour started, they thought that cave was the coolest thing since elastic underwear. They got a kick out of the "cave bacon" aka: ribbon stalactites, and the coral thingamajigs were pretty darn cool too. Next time we just need to take the lantern tour up into the grand cavern...it sounded pretty cool, but it was sold out.

And to end my rant about the Golden Compass quite a few months back...I'm on the last 20 pages of the final book in the trilogy... The Amber Spyglass...and, for all you die hard christians out there who think that the children in the book conspire to "kill god" they didn't. They found "the authority" helpless on a hill being attacked, and tried to help him get away safely...but he was so old, that he fell apart in the wind. So there was no killing of god at all...just a little fyi. I'll step off the soapbox for now.

Pretty damn good books they were...kept me interested throughout the entire story. And yes, I'll admit there are a few comments in the book that if you choose to take them so, can be anti religious, but only if you choose to interpret them that way. So all in all, good read.

Class on tuesday, gotta get all my reading done before then.

Peace.

RedBubble...and the Dark Knight

Joined a new art community the other day...called RedBubble. So far it's a pretty neat place. Coolest part is that they let you sell your work in a variety of different sizes and options (cards are my favorite), and you get to put your chosen markup on top of the original cost. :D

Click on the nifty little flash widget up there, and it'll take you straight to my page. :D

In other news...Dark Knight was A-freaking-MAZING. Heath Ledger did a PHENOMINAL job (better that I could have possibly imagined) and the plot was solid, and jam packed with action. Can't wait for the next one.

Other than that, just chillin at the house this weekend watching the kids. We played wii for probably 5 hours today. I can finally get through an entire game of baseball without throwing out my shoulder, and I've mastered a way to do tennis without injuring myself either :D :D. Haven't been daring enough to try boxing again though. (I make it sound like wii is some kind of hazardous game that shouldn't be played :-P ) but it was fun. Had to repair the guitar hero disc by putting peanut butter on it...worked like a charm. :)

Let's name the zones, the zones, the zones

Week one...officially over. 10 more to go *faint*

History of Photo 2 is pretty much the same as HP1, with all the new info, but ZONE...is way cool. Yep, that's my second class...the zone system. Basically it's a system that places valuse from pure white to pure black on a scale of 10 zones, and I'm learning to manipulate film, and printing (both digital and traditional) to get all 10 zones in a print to create a full tonal range. Pretty freakin' cool to me. (yes...I'm a nerd) But then again, Todd's an amazing teacher, so anything he teaches is worth learning.

But...the whole entire time I was in his class, every time he said the word zone, I had the song that the stingray from Finding Nemo sings pop into my head...

"Oh let's name the zones, the zones, the zones
Let's name the zones of the open sea
There's epipelagic, mesopelagic, bathyal,abyssopelagic
All the rest are too deep for you and me to see"

"Oh, let's name the species, the species, the species
Let's name the species that live in the sea
There's porifera, coelenterata, hydrozoa, scyphozoa, anthozoa, ctenophora, bryozoas, three! Gastropoda, arthropoda, echinoderma, and some fish like you and me. Come on, sing with me. Oh...!

Just the girls this time. Oh, seaweed is cool. Seaweed is fun. It makes it's food with the rays of the sun...

"Oh, knowledge exploring is oh so lyrical, when you think thoughts that are empirical."

You know you love it. :-P

Been a while eh??

Haven't had anything to "blog" so to speak in a while...I wonder how people who blog everyday come up with all the shit that ends up on their pages...that's talent. I wonder if that would make a person more creative, having to come up with something to say every day. Maybe I'll try it. (and probably abandon it a week later, like everything else *shrug* ) If only I had the power to make the mundane every day shit that happens to me interesting to read...then all of this would be brilliant.

I got in an argument with the checkout guy at borders yesterday about Canon vs. Nikon cameras...twas fun. :D

School starts up again in 3 days, I'm on the fence in terms of excitement to be back, and wishing I had more time to be a lazy ass. It'll be nice to be back with my friends and learning a bunch of stuff that I wouldn't by sitting at home. I'm really looking forward to Todd's class, a whole entire class shooting in B&W. History of Photo II can't be too bad...at least I'll get to see some cool photos, maybe get some inspiration. God knows I need some.

I told myself I would go to bed at 2, which is creeping up sooner than I thought, so that probably won't happen. That first day of getting up at 5am is going to be a bitch.

My mom's new favorite phrase is "Lindsay should get a job." I don't think she understands that I would love to work, I just don't want to spend a single day being any more unhappy than I have to. So I'm searching (yes mom...if you're reading) for something that I would be happy doing. I wish I could get a job teaching little kids art. Maybe I'll start my own business teaching art to kids after school. (According to google, there are none here in good ol' Parker)
